Therapy for trauma, anxiety, and depression in Iowa City

If you are carrying something that feels far too heavy to carry alone, you don’t have to keep holding it that way.

I work with adults navigating trauma (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and dissociation to name a few. I use approaches that go far beyond the average talk therapy to help your nervous system actually heal.

What I Treat

Many of my clients come in not knowing exactly what's wrong, but they feel that something has felt off for a long time. That's a completely valid place to start. I specialize in helping adults work through the below issues.

“After making a personal commitment to improve my mental health and subsequently researching local therapists, I found Tyler. My life has truly changed and I find myself finally at peace with myself. Tyler led me on a dive deep into my life and taught me how to use the tools I needed to finally find the freedom from my own unhealthy behaviors/patterns. Tyler is quite skilled, understanding, patient, and unshakable. If you are ready for a journey towards a healthy mind and soul, I highly recommend Tyler.”

“I have been going to see Tyler for quite a while now. I have been going to therapy for 10 years or so and never understood when people said "you just have to find the right one" until I started with Tyler! He has given me so many tools and has helped me to reach diagnoses that I wouldn't have if it weren't for him. He is also highly skilled in so many areas that have been more beneficial than I can describe. I highly HIGHLY recommend Tyler for any mental health needs.”

“I started working with Tyler a little over 4 years ago. I had been seeing another therapist, and it was not really going anywhere for me. I had what I considered a lot to work through. Tyler helped me realize that I had the tools and skills to be able to help myself. It was a matter of showing up for myself to put them into practice. Tyler provided a safe place for me to be able to speak my truths into existence. To be able to work through the loss of my family due to coming out, and the loss of my mother this past year to cancer.

It has never been easy, but Tyler allowed me the time and space I needed to be able to heal and find my way to a peace of mind I didn't know was possible.

Thank you, Tyler, for being my guide.”

Reclaim Your Authenticity

Somewhere along the way, you may have wandered off your authentic path. That does not mean something is wrong with you, that means we have some searching to do.

Unfortunately, for so many of us, we learn to internalize shameful, negative, and harmful lies about ourselves so that we can survive our early childhood environments. Whether that be through trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, etc., they all end up trying to live on within your nervous system.

It is time to unlearn those narratives, and replace them with authentic narratives you have always known to be true, but had to lock away a long, long time ago.

Here is what I mean:

Key Problem

You Are Suffering

Life has be difficult, and you have learned to overcome that difficulty as best as you could. However, there are some things you just can’t push yourself through because you want to. You have to go through the process of healing those old wounds.

Our Solution

We Can Help

You have always been more than your challenges, and you will always be more than your hardest times. Our work is designed to work through the densely woven emotional knots hidden in your traumas, your survival states, and your dark moments. It is high time you lived an emotionally free and authentic life.

One Day At A Time

A Mental Health Journal

Over the nearly 10 years I have been a licensed clinician, certain questions get repeated. I decided to take all of my most common questions I ask in real therapy session to work for me here in this journal. Each page gives you a prompt I have given a client along the way. I look forward to how this journal can help you on your mental health journey. You are also more than welcome to join my newsletter for updates on new projects, articles, and posts.

This journal currently has two versions. Version one is the purple cover, and version two is the red color. The second version has lines to write on, and also has some variation of prompts that I have reworded - otherwise, they are the same!
